St Denis Golf Course	The History of St. Denis Golf Course From its very start in 1965 (and continuing through the present), St. Denis Golf Course was the vehicle Scotty (Norbert) and Mary Ann Foecking created to unify and strengthen their young family. While taking the long way home after visiting the gravesite of their son Denis (hence the name), they called the phone number displayed on a “vacant land for sale” sign. After purchasing the property and several parcels of adjoining land, Scotty, armed with a PhD in Chemical Engineering, teamed up with H. A. Burkhardt, a well-known Cleveland Metroparks officer at the time, and designed St. Denis Golf Course. Next would come the hard work of transforming their dream into reality. Construction began on the original 9 holes in 1966. Scotty and Mary Ann, along with Mary Ann’s parents, together with lots of cheap labor (they had 10 children of their own) cleared, re-contoured, laid pipe and planted the first 9 holes. As a family, their hard work resulted in a golf course accentuating the luxurious topography this piece of land presented. Four lakes had been built, with holes bordering three of them—the fourth lake supplying water for irrigation. St Denis, one could say, was designed for family golf by a golfing family.
